Women’s Track and Field Runs at Polar Bear Invitational
MARION, Ind. – The Defiance College women’s track and field team participated in their second outdoor meet of the season on Saturday, March 27, at the Indiana Wesleyan Polar Bear Invitational.
MARION, Ind. – The Defiance College women's track and field team participated in their second outdoor meet of the season on Saturday, March 27, at the Indiana Wesleyan Polar Bear Invitational. The Jackets posted some great individual performances at the meet, which did not record team scores.
The HCAC's current record-holder in the 100 meter dash, Kristin Goldstein, paced the Yellow Jackets' sprinters, who showed up big at the meet. Shavonda Price ran her first 100 meter dash of the season, finishing in 13.81 for the eighth-fastest time in the conference this year. Marlea Roalander came in just behind Price, crossing the line in 13.99, which places her ninth in the HCAC.
DC's Courtney Swabb was terrific in the 400 meter run, posting a time of 1:04.48 to claim the second-fastest time in the conference this season. The time also puts Swabb on DC's top-ten performances list.
Kaitlin Switzer ran a personal-best 19:34.21 in the 5,000 meter run, to place seventh at the meet, fourth on DC's top-ten performances list, and second in the HCAC this season. Ellen Stryfeller came in at 20:17.48, to take the seventh-place spot in the HCAC and rank sixth all-time at DC.
Kaye Bockbrader had an outstanding meet for Defiance, posting a time of 1:21.05 in the 400 meter hurdles to place seventh in the HCAC, and a time of 13:48.96 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to place fourth in the conference.
The track and field team will resume action on Friday, April 2, when they host the Yellow Jacket Open. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
