Women’s Track Team Opens Indoor Season at Trine Dual Meet

Angola, Ind. – The Defiance College women's track and field team opened the 2010 indoor season on Friday, January 22, at the Trine Meet in Angola, Ind. The Jackets finished second overall, recording 46 points in 32 events.
The Yellow Jackets dominated the High Jump event, recording the event's top two scores as Erica Debos took first place, clearing 4-09.87, while Chelsea Sites took second with a height of 4-05.93.
DC took the top three spots among attached athletes in pole vault with Kaitlyn Sandercock placing first (9-00.26), and Kaite Heitkamp and Emily Cole tying for second at 7-06.55.
In sprint events, DC's Kristen Goldstein took first place in the 60 meter dash (8.53), while Cortney Swabb placed first in the 400 meter dash (67.29). Goldstein's 60 meter dash time places her 2nd all-time in DC's record books.
Kaitlyn Switzer led the way for the Yellow Jackets in the one mile run, placing first with a time of 5:42.10, while DC's Ellen Stryfeller finished second in the event, crossing the line in 6:03.68.
The women's track and field team will resume competition on Saturday, January 30, when they participate in the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
