Pair of Record-Breaking Performances Helps DC Finish Third
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Samantha Higdon and Marlea Rolander each set meet records at the Hoosier-Buckeye Invitational on Saturday, February 21, helping Defiance finish third. The Jackets accrued 100 points at the meet, which included seven of the nine HCAC schools.

Samantha Higdon won the weight throw with her record-breaking mark of 47-05.25, while also finishing seventh in the shot put (34-01.25). Rolander tied her best time of the year in the 55m hurdles, winning the event with a record time of 8.83. The Napoleon, Ohio native also recorded a fifth-place finish in the 200m dash, crossing the line in 28.60.
Amanda Tooley claimed DC's third event title of the meet, winning the shot put with a toss of 38-00.75. The junior finished just behind Higdon in the weight throw with a toss of 45-10.75. Laura Derov , the only other DC thrower to place in the top three, was third in the shot put with a throw of 36-09.00.
Kristin Goldstein had a pair of great performances, finishing second in the 55m dash (6.69) and running a personal-best 28.01 in the 200m dash on her way to third-place. Kaitlin Switzer broke a personal-record in the mile to finish fourth with a time of 5:36.12, while finishing just behind teammate Kelly Neff (2:39.78) in the 800m. Goldstein, Neff and Switzer joined Courtney Lantz on the 4x400 relay team that finished third with a time of 4:33.85.
Lantz was also second in the pole vault, while finishing just behind fellow sophomore Alex Thiel in the long jump. Thiel scored in two other events, placing fourth in the pole vault and fifth in the triple jump.
Defiance returns to action next Friday, February 27, when it competes in the Joe Banks Invite on the campus of Ohio Northern University.
