DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College women's tennis team continued their season-opening home stand with a pair of contests against Ohio Northern and Lourdes on Wednesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets came away with a 9-0 defeat to the Polar Bears before topping the Gray Wolves 6-3.
The always strong Ohio Northern squad bested the Yellow Jackets to open up the afternoon action before DC rallied in the nightcap. It did not take long for DC to stamp their mark on the second affair as the number two doubles pairing of Destiny Oshodin (Toledo / Jesup W. Scott) and Sydney Huston (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence) cruised to an 8-2 victory.
Both Oshodin and Huston continued their impressive day on the singles courts. After picking up a tight 7-6(5) first set win, Oshodin dropped the second, sending her to a crucial match tiebreak. The freshman came up big, winning the super tiebreak 10-7.
Huston found her singles victory a bit faster as the junior pulled a 6-0, 6-1 scoreline for her second singles win of the young season.
The Yellow Jackets now stand at 1-3 on the year. DC will return to action with an HCAC battle with Rose-Hulman on September 14. First serve of the home match with the Fightin-Engineers is slated for 10:00 am.
