Number One Singles Win Highlights Contest vs Anderson
DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College women's tennis team was in action on Wednesday afternoon as they hosted Anderson University for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The rainy weather saw the match move into the George M. Smart Center, where Defiance was defeated 8-1.
DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College women's tennis team was in action on Wednesday afternoon as they hosted Anderson University for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The rainy weather saw the match move into the George M. Smart Center, where Defiance was defeated 8-1.
The loss was highlighted by a sole singles victory from senior Hannah Hesterman (Archbold / Archbold). Hesterman swept her opponent in the opening set before winning the second set 6-3. In other singles action, Cayla Walker (Archbold / Archbold) took her Raven opponent to three sets. Walker was able to win the first set in a tiebreak 7-6, before falling in the second set 2-6. A third set was needed for the Raven number three to win 10-2.
A.J. Breneman (Bryan / Bryan) earned three games in her opening singles set before falling 3-6, 0-6. In number six singles, Alexa St. Julian (Oregon / Clay) won four total games, falling by a scoreline of 2-6, 2-6.
On the doubles side of action the number one pairing of Hesterman and Walker were able to earn three games from the visiting opponents, ultimately falling 3-8.
The defeat brings Defiance's record to 3-11 on the season and 1-5 in HCAC play.
The women's tennis team is next in action Saturday, Oct. 13 as they wrap up the season with a pair of HCAC matches. Dix Tennis Facility will welcome Hanover for an 8:00 am start including Senior Day festivities. A contest with Mount St. Joseph will follow with first serve scheduled for 11:30 am.
