Women's Tennis Heads South for a Pair of Contests
LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY - The Defiance College women's tennis team hit the road for a pair of matches on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets took on fellow Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference member Transylvania and fell 9-0, followed by a non-conference 9-0 defeat to Thomas More.

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY - The Defiance College women's tennis team hit the road for a pair of matches on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets took on fellow Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference member Transylvania and fell 9-0, followed by a non-conference 9-0 defeat to Thomas More.
Defiance kicked off the day at the Transylvania Tennis Complex, where the hosting Pioneers were able to sweep the Purple and Gold. In doubles action, the number one pairing of Hannah Hesterman (Archbold / Archbold) and Cayla Walker (Archbold / Archbold) were able to win two games from their opponents before falling 8-2.
On the singles side of play, Defiance's performance was highlighted on the number six court as Alexa St. Julian (Oregon / Clay) battled her Transy opponent to a third set. After falling 6-1 in the first, St. Julian fought back to win 6-4 in the second set before falling 10-7 in the third.
The busy day was not done yet as the Yellow Jackets stayed within Kentucky to battle the Saints of Thomas More. Doubles action saw Hesterman and Walker narrowly defeated in an 8-5 contest.
In singles action, A.J. Breneman's (Bryan / Bryan) performance pushed the number two Saint to a tiebreak in the first set. The sophomore was edged out 8-6 in the tiebreak before falling in the second set 6-1. Chelsey Braunwart (Trenton / Edgewood) was able to earn three games in her contest, ultimately falling 2-6, 1-6.
Defiance returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 10 as the Dix Tennis Facility plays host to Anderson University. First serve is set for 4:30 pm.
