The two sides were evenly matched in both doubles and singles action, but the Crusaders were able to edge out the Yellow Jackets for the 5-4 victory.
Doubles action proved a good start for the Purple and Gold as they were able to win two of the three matches. Number one doubles featuring the senior duo of Hannah Hesterman (Archbold / Archbold) and Cayla Walker (Archbold / Archbold) gave their opponents a battle, taking the set to an extra game, but fell 9-7. Number two and three doubles found success for the Yellow Jackets as A.J. Breneman (Bryan / Bryan) and Chelsey Braunwart (Trenton / Edgewood) were able to coast to an 8-3 win, their second victory in as many matches. Sydney Huston (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence) and Alexa St. Julian (Oregon / Clay) were victorious by a score of 8-5, their first win as doubles partners during the 2018 season.
The Yellow Jackets took the 2-1 lead into singles action where the Crusaders were able to achieve more success. Hesterman earned her third victory of the year with a 6-3, 7-5 win. Breneman battled through two tiebreaks in her match before falling 7-6, 7-6 in number two singles. In number four singles, Huston earned four games in the first set before being swept 6-0 in the second. Braunwart pressured Capital's Archibald in number five singles but couldn't quite break her opponent, ultimately falling 7-5, 6-4. Rylea Amspaugh (Nashport / Lakewood) won the first set of number six singles 6-4, before dropping the second by the same scoreline. The junior headed to a decisive third set before falling 6-2.
