Women's Tennis Drops First Conference Match
FRANKLIN, IND. - The Defiance College women's tennis team hit the road for the first taste of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action of the 2018 season. The Yellow Jackets traveled to Franklin College for the evening contest on Friday, and fell to the Grizzlies 9-0.
FRANKLIN, IND. - The Defiance College women's tennis team hit the road for the first taste of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action of the 2018 season. The Yellow Jackets traveled to Franklin College for the evening contest on Friday, and fell to the Grizzlies 9-0.
Fans were treated to thrilling tennis straight from the start of the contest as the Defiance number one doubles duo of Hannah Hesterman (Archbold / Archbold) and Cayla Walker (Archbold / Archbold) battled to the very end of their match. The two sides were evenly matched as they finished tied 8-8, and were forced to go to a tiebreak. The Grizzlies side was able to edge out Hesterman and Walker 7-3 in the tiebreak to take the set 9-8. On the number two court the Yellow Jacket pairing of A.J. Breneman (Bryan / Bryan) and Chelsey Braunwart (Trenton / Edgewood) dropped their contest 8-2. Number three doubles action saw Sydney Huston (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence) and Alexa St. Julian (Oregon / Clay) take three games from the Grizzlie foes before falling 8-3.
In singles action Hesterman found herself in another tiebreak as she fell to Franklin's Karen Dringenburg 6-3, 78-67 in two sets. Breneman took five games from her Franklin opponent but ultimately lost 6-2, 6-3. Walker and Huston each fell by 6-1,6-1 and 6-3, 6-1 scorelines respectively. In five and six singles Braunwart and St. Julian fell via 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 scorelines.
The Yellow Jackets continue their road travels as they head to Rose-Hulman Saturday, Sept. 15th for another HCAC contest. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 am.
