Women's Tennis Swept by Trine
ANGOLA, IND. - The Defiance College women's tennis team traveled to Trine University on Tuesday evening and fell to the Thunder by a final score of 9-0.
ANGOLA, IND. - The Defiance College women's tennis team traveled to Trine University on Tuesday evening and fell to the Thunder by a final score of 9-0.
On the doubles side of action the Yellow Jacket number one duo of Hannah Hesterman (Archbold / Archbold) and A.J. Breneman (Bryan / Bryan) battled through 10 games and ultimately fell to the Thunder side 8-2. Likewise, the number two pairing of Cayla Walker (Archbold / Archbold) and Chelsey Braunwart (Trenton / Edgewood) were defeated by the same scoreline. On the number three doubles court, the Yellow Jacket pairing of Sydney Huston (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence) and Rylea Amspaugh (Nashport / Lakewood) were swept by a score of 8 games to none.
Singles action showed promise for the Purple and Gold as each of the top three singles won games off of their Thunder opponents. Hesterman took three games and ultimately fell 6-2, 6-1. Breneman battled through a tough match losing the first set 7-5, and falling in the second 6-3. Fans were treated to a thrilling contest on the number three court as Defiance's Cayla Walker forced a three-setter. After falling 6-2 in the first, Walker rallied to win the second set in a tiebreak 6-7 (5-7). Ultimately, her Thunder opponent pulled out the third set 10-2. Huston and Amspaugh each fell 6-0, 6-0 in number four and six singles respectively. Braunwart pulled two games out in the first set before falling 6-2, 6-0.
The loss moves the Yellow Jackets record to 1-2 on the 2018 campaign. The team will open up HCAC play on Friday as they travel to Franklin College, first serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
