Purple and Gold Fall Short Against Alma
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's tennis team was defeated 6-3 this afternoon by Alma College in Defiance, Ohio.
In doubles action, partners Hannah Hesterman and Cayla Walker obtained the lone Defiance doubles win on the day, winning 8-6 at No. 1. Second doubles went to the Scots as AJ Breneman and Sydney Huston fell 9-7 while MacKenzie Combs and Chayenne Bultman dropped third doubles 8-0.
Hesterman went on to capture one of only two Yellow Jackets wins in singles play, winning 6-3, 6-1 at first singles. At No. 2 singles, Breneman put up a valiant effort, falling 6-3 in the first set before taking the second set 6-4. She would go on to narrowly fall 10-8 in the final set. The other Purple and Gold victory was seized by Walker at third singles, earning a 6-1, 6-2 win. Combs dropped her match at fourth singles 6-1, 6-0 while Huston dropped No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-1. Alma finished the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win at sixth singles over Bultman.
The Yellow Jackets continue their spring schedule on Sunday, March 4 as they travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina to participate in the Spring Tennis Fest. They take on Baldwin Wallace with a 1:00 PM serve time.
