Yellow Jackets Earn First Victory of the Season, Dominating Mt. St. Joe 8-1
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Defiance College women's tennis team secured their first victory of the season this afternoon, taking down conference rival Mount St. Joseph 8-1 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Yellow Jackets made a clean sweep of the doubles flights, taking all three without problem. At No. 1 doubles, Hannah Hesterman and Cayla Walker routed the Lions 8-1 while duets AJ Breneman and Sydney Huston and Mackenzie Combs and Courtney Alexander both defeated Mt. St. Joe 8-4.
In singles action, Defiance was just as dominant, winning five of the six flights. Hesterman rolled her opponent at first singles 6-1, 6-0 and Walker had little trouble at third singles, winning 6-2, 6-3. At No. 4 singles, Alexander trumped MSJ 6-0, 6-2 while Combs came out on top at fifth singles 6-3, 7-5. Huston took home the final win on the day, going 6-0, 4-6, 10-7 at sixth singles. Breneman was defeated at second singles 6-2, 6-2.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, September 27 as they host Manchester University at the Dix Tennis Facility. First serve is set for 4:30 PM.
