Defiance Handed Loss By Drew

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Defiance College women's tennis team were held scoreless in their final match of Spring Tennis Fest falling to Drew (N.J.) University, 9-0, in Hilton Head, S.C.
Defiance (3-13) quickly fell behind as Drew won all three doubles matches. The duo of sophomore Danielle Vance (Defiance) and junior Courtney Alexander (Bristolville/Bristol) won the most games for DC, losing 8-4.
Sophomores Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) and Cayla Walker (Archbold) added one tick to the scoreboard, falling short 8-1 overall. Sophomore Stephanie Houston (Amherst/Marion L. Steele) and junior Mackenzie Combs (Milford Center/Fairbanks) captured a pair of games, but would fall in the match, 8-2.
Drew continued the impressive play in singles, winning all six matches. Hesterman had the closest match at first singles winning five total games, but was outdone by her opponent overall, 6-2 and 6-3. Walker played a tough first set of her third singles match, but was outlasted, 6-3, and then dropped the second set, 6-1. Houston also hung with her oppponent in the first set of her match at fifth singles, losing 7-5, but fell, 6-1, in the second set.
Vance lost her second singles match, 6-1 and 6-0 and Alexander lost by identical scores of 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles. Rounding out the DC competitors was Combs who was defeated, 6-2 and 6-1 at sixth singles.
