Women's Tennis Defeated by DeSales

Defiance (3-12) fell behind early as DeSales (7-1) won all three doubles matches. The closest individual match came at second doubles with the team of sophomore Danielle Vance (Defiance) and junior Courtney Alexander (Bristolville/Bristol) who won three games in an 8-3 decision.
Sophomores Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) and Cayla Walker (Archbold) captured one game against their opponents at first doubles, but would fall by the ifnal of 8-1. Sophomore Stephanie Houston (Amherst/Marion L. Steele) and junior Mackenzie Combs (Milford Center/Fairbanks) were held scoreless in their third doubles matchup, losing 8-0.
DeSales kept up the dominant play in singles action by taking all six matches. Hesterman and Walker recorded the closest matches for DC at first and third singles. Both players won a combined four games with Hesterman falling by the scores of 6-1 and 6-3, while Walker captured three games in the first set (6-3), and one in the second (6-1).
Vance took one game in both sets of her second singles match (6-1, 6-1) and Combs began her sixth singles match with a 6-0 loss, but then won a pair of games in set two with a final score of 6-2.
In the final two matches, Alexander and Houston were both defeated by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Defiance will conclude its trip south at the Spring Tennis Fest with a non-conference match against Drew (N.J.) University on Friday, Mar. 10. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
