Jackets End Season With Loss Against Anderson
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's tennis team ended the 2016 season with a 9-0 loss against Anderson (Ind.) University in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference finale at the Dix Tennis Courts.
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's tennis team ended the 2016 season with a 9-0 loss against Anderson (Ind.) University in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference finale at the Dix Tennis Courts.
Anderson (4-4, 3-3 HCAC) made quick work of the three doubles matches to grab the early 3-0 advantage. The duos of sophomore Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) and senior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) along with sophomore Danielle Vance (Defiance) and junior Mackenzie Combs (Milford Center/Fairbanks) both won a game in their respective matches, but both fell by the final scores of 8-1.
The Ravens continued the dominant play in the singles matches, holding the Yellow Jackets scoreless in three of the six matchups. Hesterman captured the most games in her match at first singles, winning one in the first set (6-1) and two in the second (6-2). Vance won a pair of games in the first set of her second singles match, but lost the overall match by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
Sophomore Cayla Walker (Archbold) rounded out the individual game winners for DC winning one game in the second set of her match at fifth singles after dropping the first set, 6-0. Walker's opponent went on to win the second set, 6-1, to complete the two-set victory as Anderson posted the 9-0 overall victory.
