Defiance Beaten By Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Defiance College women's tennis team was defeated by Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology, 9-0, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match in Terre Haute, Ind.
Rose-Hulman (5-1, 4-1 HCAC) won the first two doubles matches by shutout with the final scores of 8-0. The third doubles duo of sophomore Danielle Vance (Defiance) and junior Mackenzie Combs (Milford Center/Fairbanks) played the closest match in doubles action, winning four games, but fell by the overall score of 8-4.
Already leading by a comfortable 3-0 advantage heading into singles play, the Fightin' Engineers continued their dominating play by capturing all six singles matches. The closest match of the day came at fifth singles with sophomore Cayla Walker (Archbold) winning a total of three games with the final set scores going in favor of her RHIT opponent, 6-2 and 6-1.
Also winning games in their individual matches included sophomore Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) at number one singles (6-1, 6-0) and senior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) at fourth singles (6-0, 6-1).
Rose-Hulman cruised in the other singles matchups and went on to post the 9-0 overall victory.
Defiance will wrap-up the 2016 season when it hosts Anderson (Ind.) University in the finale on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at the Dix Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
