Manchester Too Much For Yellow Jackets
NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. -- The Defiance College women's tennis team traveled to North Manchester, Ind. for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match against Manchester University, but fell to the Spartans by the final of 9-0.
NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. -- The Defiance College women's tennis team traveled to North Manchester, Ind. for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match against Manchester University, but fell to the Spartans by the final of 9-0.
Manchester (4-1, 4-0 HCAC) took control of the match right from the start by sweeping all three doubles matches. Sophomores Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) and Danielle Vance (Defiance) were the only duo to win games against their opponents, but fell in the overall match, 8-2, at first doubles.
After losing the first set at first singles, Hesterman captured two games in the second set, losing the overall match, 6-0 and 6-2. Senior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) also won a pair of games in her match at fourth singles, but would surrender the match to Manchester, 6-0 and 6-2.
Sophomore Cayla Walker (Archbold) won a game in both sets at fifth singles with the overall match going in favor of the Spartans, 6-1 and 6-1. At sixth singles, junior Mackenzie Combs (Milford Center/Fairbanks) was shutout in the first set, 6-0, but played a competitive second set winning four games and falling short, 6-4.
Defiance will next travel to Lexington, Ky. for a HCAC match against Transylvania (Ky.) University on Saturday, Sept. 24. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
