Yellow Jackets Sting the Harriers
HAMILTON, OHIO – The Defiance College women’s tennis team traveled to Hamilton, Ohio to face Miami (Ohio) University – Hamilton in non-conference play and earned their first victory of the season with an overall match score of 7-2.

The Yellow Jackets (1-4) ended doubles play ahead of the Harriers, 2-1 after the second doubles team of senior Haley Kuhlman (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Danielle Vance (Defiance) defeated their opponent 8-3. Senior Nicole Tank (Lincoln Park, Mich. /Roosevelt) and junior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa. /Bloomsburg) won their third doubles match by forfeit in order to take the 2-1 lead into singles play.
After doubles play, Defiance never gave Miami (Ohio) an opportunity to lead, after dominating in five out of the six singles matches. Freshman Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) played second singles and won by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Kuhlman played the third singles spot and walked away with a victory with a score of 6-1, 6-2. Vance stood strong in the fourth singles spot, coming back from a first set loss to win in a tie-break to determine the third set winner (3-6, 6-2, 17-15). Senior Dava Donaldson (Elyria) defeated her Miami (Ohio) foe 6-1, 6-1. The final win for the Yellow Jackets was credited to Tank in the sixth singles spot off of a forfeit from the Harriers.
Defiance looks to continue the winning streak on Wednesday, Sept. 16 when they host Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Manchester (Ind.) University. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
