Yellow Jackets Battle The Lions
CINCINNATI, OHIO – The Defiance College women’s tennis team traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio to open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play and fell to Mount Saint Joseph University by a match score of 6-3.
CINCINNATI, OHIO – The Defiance College women's tennis team traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio to open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play and fell to Mount Saint Joseph University by a match score of 6-3.
Senior Nicole Tank (Lincoln Park, Mich. /Roosevelt) and junior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa. /Bloomsburg) led the Jackets (0-4, 0-1 HCAC) in doubles play, posting an 8-5 win over The Lions' (2-0, 1-0 HCAC) third doubles team. Senior Savannah Marquez (Porterville, Calif. /Porterville) and freshman Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) played first doubles while senior Haley Kuhlman (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Danielle Vance (Defiance) played second doubles, both teams fell by a score of 8-3.
Hesterman and senior Dava Donaldson (Elyria) both earned their first collegiate singles wins of the season. Hesterman stood strong at the second singles spot, coming back from a first set deficit, to defeat her Mount St. Joseph opponent by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Donaldson earned a victory in the sixth singles spot after finishing the match ahead of her opponent 6-2, 6-4.
The Yellow Jackets return to action tomorrow (Sept. 13) when they travel to Hamilton, Ohio to face Miami (Ohio) University-Hamilton in non-conference action. The match is set for 11:00 a.m.
