Defiance Comes Up Short to The Saints
CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY. – The Defiance College women’s tennis team traveled to Crestview Hills, Ky. to face Thomas More (Ky.) in non-conference play and came up short by a score of 9-0.
CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY. – The Defiance College women's tennis team traveled to Crestview Hills, Ky. to face Thomas More (Ky.) in non-conference play and came up short by a score of 9-0.
The Yellow Jackets (0-3), despite the overall match score, battled against The Saints (2-0) in each match played for the afternoon. Senior Savannah Marquez (Porterville, Calif. /Porterville) and freshman Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) played first doubles and ended their match down 8-3. Second doubles was played by senior Haley Kuhlman (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Danielle Vance (Defiance) who fell by a score of 8-4. Rounding out doubles play was senior Nicole Tank (Lincoln Park, Mich. /Roosevelt) and junior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa. /Bloomsburg) who finished with a score of 8-5.
Kuhlman had the closest singles match at the third singles spot, where she forced her Thomas More foe into a tie-break to decide the first set, then eventually fell by a match score of 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Hesterman was also a force at the second singles spot, taking her opponent to a final score of 7-5, 6-1.
Defiance returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 when they travel to Cincinnati to face Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Mount St. Joseph University. First serve is set for noon.
