Yellow Jackets Fall to the Polar Bears

DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College women's tennis team hosted Ohio Northern University and came up short to the Polar Bears by a score of 8-1.
Defiance (0-2) battled the Polar Bears (2-0) in the third doubles spot when senior Nicole Tank (Lincoln Park, Mich. /Roosevelt) and junior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa. /Bloomsburg) came just short of taking the match by a score of 8-6. The Yellow Jackets ended doubles play down 3-0 after the first doubles team of senior Savannah Marquez (Porterville, Calif. /Porterville) and freshman Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) and the second doubles team of senior Haley Kuhlman (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Danielle Vance (Defiance) both fell 8-1.
The lone win of the evening came from Tank at the fifth singles spot when she thumped her Polar Bear foe by a score of 8-0. Kuhlman and Vance both battled hard at the third and fourth singles spot, respectively but ended the match down 8-3. Senior Dava Donaldson (Elyria) made her tennis debut as a Yellow Jacket and defended the sixth singles spot, coming up just short by a score of 8-4.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Sunday Sept. 6 when they travel to Crestview Hills, Ky. to face Thomas More (Ky.) College in non-conference action. The match is set for noon.
