Yellow Jackets Fall in Season Opener to Mount Saint Joseph
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College (0-1) women’s tennis team opened up their 2014 season Saturday afternoon against Mount Saint Joseph (3-0). The Yellow Jackets were defeated by a match score of 7-2.

The two victories for Defiance came from Mount Saint Joseph forfeits in third doubles and sixth singles, where Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) and Courtney Alexander (Bristolville/Bristol) were awarded the win at the third doubles spot and Alexander at sixth singles.
In doubles competition, Nicole Tank (Lincoln Park, Mich /Roosevelt) teamed up with Savannah Marquez (Porterville, Calif.) at the first doubles spot, falling to the Lions, 8-1.
The second double team consisting of Bailey Marquez (Porterville, Calif.) and Haley Kuhlman (Oregon/Clay) dropped the set, 8-0.
Going into singles play down 1-2, the Yellow Jackets dropped all matches. A bright spot for Defiance was the play of Savannah Marquez at second singles, who won eight games in her individual match but fell by the overall score of 7-5, 6-3.
The Yellow Jackets will travel to New Concord for a non-conference match against Muskingum University tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 14). Match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
