Lady Jackets fall to Hanover in final home tennis match
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women’s tennis team fought hard but lost 9-0 in its bout with Hanover on Saturday, September 28.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's tennis team fought hard but lost 9-0 in its bout with Hanover on Saturday, September 28. The Purple and Gold dropped to 0-5 (0-5 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference), while the Panthers improved to 7-2 (4-0 HCAC).
Action kicked off with doubles competition, where DC's No. 1 pair of senior Tasha Brown and sophomore Nicole Tank fell 8-1. The sophomore tandem of Savannah Marquez and Maria Weber than came up short 8-1 in No. 2 doubles. The last pair of Jackets was sophomore Hayley Kuhlman and freshman Kayla Miller were defeated 8-0.
Each of the duo's really showed improvement in the home finale, as there were some solid points won by the Lady Jackets. They stayed competitive and never quit in the match.
DC then moved into singles play and kept up the effort. Tank and Weber each took one game in the first set of their matches. Overall, the team as a whole made the Panthers work for every game point throughout the day.
Defiance returns to the courts next Saturday, October 5, when it travels to Transylvania to take on the Pioneers. The contest is slated to begin at 10 am.
