Women's Soccer Tripped Up by Earlham
DEFIANCE, Ohio- On a cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon, the Defiance College women’s soccer team hosted Earlham College for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Quakers took down the Yellow Jackets by a score of 4-1.

Off to a quick start, Earlham scored twice in the first five minutes, getting an early 2-0 lead. The Yellow Jacket defense held off the Quakers for the rest of the half, allowing minimal shots and catching the away team offsides seven times in the first forty-five minutes.
Toward the end of the half senior Sarah Madaras (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Parchment) drew a foul inside the box, earning the Yellow Jackets a penalty kick. Senior Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi) took the kick finding the back corner of the net and cutting the Quaker's lead to 2-1.
Newman led the way for the Purple and Gold offense today, recording three shots and tallying her seventh goal of the season. Kaina Carpenter (Holmesville, Ohio. / Triway) created offensives opportunities for the Yellow Jackets taking two shots on frame, forcing the Earlham goalie to make the saves.
Despite hard fought effort of Defiance, Earlham tacked on another two goals in the second half securing the 4-1 HCAC win.
With the loss, Defiance moves to 4-14-1 on the season and 0-8 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, November 2, as they host Hanover College in the final game of the 2019 season. Defiance College women's soccer will honor their nine seniors before the game during the Senior Day festivities. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
