Yellow Jackets Defeated by an Offensive First Half
NOTRE DAME, Ind.- The Yellow Jackets hit the road on Tuesday for a match against St. Mary’s College (Ind.), where they were ultimately defeated 6-1 by the Belles.

The host team prevailed from an offensive first half, as the Belles jumped to an early lead in the tenth minute of play as Rose Stackhouse scored her seventh goal of the season.The home side struck again scoring on Senior Madi Bowman, (Eaton, Ohio/ Eaton), who minded the net for the Yellow Jackets for all 90 minutes and tallied seven saves. The Belles eventually scored two more times taking a 4-0 lead at the half.
The Yellow Jackets did not go down without a fight, as Senior Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich./ Lumen Christi) took a shot from the top of the box, finding back right corner of the net with a little under two minutes to play in the first half. Blake scored the only goal for the Yellow Jackets on the day, recording her fourth goal of the 2019 season.
The Belles scored two more times in the second half, sealing the win over Defiance. Yellow Jacket senior, Katie Settich (Huber Heights, Ohio/ Chaminade Julienne) attempted to create one last offensive opportunity for DC with seconds left in the game by taking a shot on goal that hit the crossbar. Settich tallied two shots on the day.
The loss for the Purple and Gold brings their season record to 2-2-1, which ties for the best start to the season since 2013.
The Defiance College women's soccer team plans to bounce back as they hit the road once again to travel to St. Mary's of the Woods on Saturday, September 14 for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
