Women's Soccer Hosts Mt. St. Joseph in Final Home Contest

DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College women's soccer team welcomed in a talented Mount St. Joseph side on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets held the Lion offense to three goals on the day, falling 3-0 in the final home contest of the season.

The potent MSJ offense was off to a quick start at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field, as the Lions were able to score the first goal of the contest less than two minutes into the game. Two more goals in the early parts of the first half saw the Yellow Jackets down 3-0.

The Yellow Jacket offense created three shots during the first 45 minutes, forcing the Lions goalkeeper into one save.

Defensively, the Purple and Gold did well to hold a tight line against the visitors, drawing eight offside calls in just the first half of action. Junior goalkeeper Madi Bowman (Eaton / Eaton) set a new career high in season saves as her five on the day take her season tally to 131.

The second half of action saw Head Coach Jenny Vincent's side hold a cleansheet against the Lions. Cassidy Weiss (Centerville, Ind. / Centerville) stepped in net for the Purple and Gold, making four saves on four shots.

Offensively the Yellow Jackets were led by Whitney Webb (Troy / Troy) who contested the Lions goalkeeper with a free kick during the second half. Sarah Madaras (Kalamzoo, Mich. / Parchment), Jordan Furko (Swanton / Swarnton), Maddie Brown (Toledo / Cardinal Stritch Catholic), and Kat Wicher (Toledo / Whitmer) each added a shot to their name during the outing.

The loss brings Defiance's record to 2-13 on the season and 2-5 in the HCAC. The women will next be in action Wednesday, October 24 at 3:30 pm as they travel to Earlham College for the penultimate game of the 2018 season.
