DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's soccer team wrapped up their 2017 season with a 4-1 loss to Mount St. Joseph College this afternoon in Defiance, Ohio. Seniors Kassie Memmer and Megan Wesley were honored in their final stand in a Yellow Jacket uniform.
The Lions opened the scoring early as they took the 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of action on a Kaylan Gruber goal. At the 25:48 minute-mark, Mt. St. Joe extended their advantage as Brenna Lonneman found April Zeiger to net a second goal for MSJ. Defiance was limited to two shots in the first period, one of which coming from Megan Ortiz, missing just wide. The Lions added two additional goals from Jasmine Cahill and Jodie Weimer to head into the second half with a 4-0 lead.
The lone goal for Defiance came from celebrated senior Memmer in the 69th minute on a free kick that skimmed directly over the keeper's hands. Memmer lead the team in goals this season, finishing with four.
In frame for Defiance was Madi Bowman, tallying 14 saves on 18 shots on goal. Lauren Perry recorded two shots on goal while Memmer, Kat Wicher and Emily Miller all added one piece. As a team, DC was outshot 35-7.
The Yellow Jackets conclude their season with an overall record of 1-13-2, 0-7-2 HCAC. Defiance's one win on the year came on September 3 with DC defeating Bethany College 2-1.
