DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's soccer team lost a 6-0 decision to Oberlin College at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.
Oberlin (4-0) opened the contest with an early goal, as Hannah Cook buried a rebound off the post and into the back of the net to take a quick 1-0 advantage. The Yeowomen continued to battle, as they posted four more first half goals, including a hat trick from Gwennie Gardiner to post a 5-0 halftime lead.
The Yellow Jackets posted three total shots in the second half, but could not find the scoreboard, while Oberlin added an insurance goal in the 66th minute to take a 6-0 lead, which would turn into the final score.
Oberlin out shot the Yellow Jackets, 21-5. The Defiance attack was led by senior Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green), who took a pair of shots in the loss. Freshman keeper Rachel Lowell (Lakewood) made three saves to lead DC, while sophomore Madi Bowman (Eaton) added two.
Defiance wraps up their season-opening four-game homestand with a matchup against Malone University on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Match time is set for 4 p.m. at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field!
