Yellow Jackets Taken Down By Panthers

Hanover (9-5, 6-1 HCAC) put it's first four shots of the game on net, but strong play by Defiance freshman goalkeeper Maddie Bowman (Eaton) kept all four attempts from finding the back of the net. Senior Katie Tilman (Miami, Fla./LaSalle) recorded the first shot for the Yellow Jackets (2-11, 2-5 HCAC) at the 6:59 mark, but missed wide.
The Panthers continued to rack up the shot attempts as Hanover outshot DC, 31-1, in the period, including 19 shots on goal. The Panthers got on the board with their first goal of the contest at the 7:54 mark and then netted two more goals during the 16th and 22nd minutes to grab a 3-0 lead near the mid-way point of the half.
Before the end of the half, Hanover padded its lead with two additional goals, beginning with a marker at the 40:41 mark and then again two minutes later to round out the scoring and boast a 5-0 advantage at the intermisison.
In the second half of play, the Panthers picked up where they left off by scoring their sixth goal of the game just 41 seconds into the period. Hanover recorded 11 shots on goal in the final 45 minutes which led to four additional goals that came during the 55th, 60th, 61st and 63rd minutes en route to the 10-0 victory.
Freshman Laurel Mann (Roachdale, Ind./North Putnam) blasted a shot for DC in the second half, missing just high. Mann was the only Jacket to take a shot in the period.
Overall, Bowman had seven goals against and recorded a season-high 15 saves (.655 pct) in net for the Jackets. Bowman played the first 55:40 minutes before freshman Kiana Carpenter (Homesville/Triway) had her turn in net for the remaining 34:20. Carpenter recorded three goals against and made five saves.
The Yellow Jackets will play in their final home game of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 26 against Anderson (Ind.) University in a HCAC matchup at Winsper-Knobel Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
