Yellow Jackets Shutout By Engineers
DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance College women’s soccer team was defeated by Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology, 2-0, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.

Defiance (2-9, 2-3 HCAC) recorded the game's first shot when freshman Miranda Herevia (Port Clinton) put one on net just 44 seconds into the opening period, but the shot resulted in a save for the Rose-Hulman (10-4, 4-1 HCAC) goalkeeper.
Both teams continued to record shots without any results until the 37:19 minute mark when the Fightin' Engineers broke the stalemate with the period's only goal and took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
In the second half, Defiance freshman goalkeeper, Madi Bowman (Eaton), kept the Yellow Jackets in the game as Rose-Hulman took 16 total shots in the period and Bowman stopping four scoring opportunities. Eventually, the Engineers got some breathing room with thier second goal of the contest during the 57th minute to extend the margin to 2-0.
The lone shot attempt for Defiance in the half came off the foot of junior Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green) with just over ten minutes remaining. Memmer's shot was on goal, but was turned away. The two-goal difference would be all Rose-Hulman needed as the Engineers went on to claim the 2-0 shutout.
Bowman played the entire game in net for DC. She allowed two goals against and recorded 12 saves.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they travel to Manchester (Ind.) University to take on the Spartans in a HCAC contest. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
