Yellow Jackets Shutout By The Grizzlies
FRANKLIN, IND.- The Defiance College women's soccer team traveled to Franklin, Ind. for a matchup against Frainklin College in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener, but fell to the Grizzlies, 7-0.
FRANKLIN, IND.- The Defiance College women's soccer team traveled to Franklin, Ind. for a matchup against Frainklin College in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener, but fell to the Grizzlies, 7-0.
The Yellow Jacekt (0-7, 0-1 HCAC) offense was held to without a shot in the first half of play. Franklin (8-2, 1-0 HCAC) scored its first goal of the game within the first 10 minutes of play at the 8:40 minute mark. The Grizzlies added on with two more goals before the intermission with scores during the 26th and 35th minutes. The teams headed into intermission with Franklin leading, 3-0.
In the second half of play, Franklin continued where it left off by scoring goal number four at the 50:10 mark. Seven minutes later, Franklin struck again to pad the lead to 5-0. Franklin tacked on two final goals which came during the 61st and 84th minutes to round out the scoring.
Freshman Lauren Perry (Northwood/Lake) took the first shot for Defiance at the 68:30 mark, but the ball landed in the hands of the goalkeeper. Freshman Natalie Lasley (Defiance) took a shot with eight seconds remaining, trying to end the shutout, but missed wide as the Grizzlies cruised to the 7-0 final.
Freshman Madi Bowman (Eaton) played 79:04 minutes in net for the Jackets. She allowed six goals against and tallied eight saves. Freshman Kiana Carpenter (Homesville/Triway) finished the game and allowed one goal against in addition to one save.
The Yellow Jackets will return to play on Tuesday, Oct. 5 as they travel to Bluffton, Ohio to take on Bluffton University in a HCAC contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
