Yellow Jackets Lose Heartbreaker to MSJ

DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe the College of Mount St. Joseph at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.

It was a tale of two halves as DC (2-14-1, 0-6-1 HCAC) scored a goal in the first half before MSJ (5-11, 2-5 HCAC) scored two goals if its own in the second half.

The Yellow Jackets put the pressure on early, taking three shots on goal the first half.  Kayleigh Marshall (Tipp City/Bethel) got the party started with a shot on goal in the seventh minute.

A little under 30 minutes later, Maegan Redick (Lima/Shawnee) took a shot on goal of her own that forced the MSJ goalie to make another save.  The score remained 0-0 at that time.

Less than a minute later, Lindsay Bubnick (Vandalia/Butler) would make a shot on goal count.  Bubnick collected herself and found an opening from just outside the box.  The lefty let go of a powerful strike that found the opposite top corner.

Melina Alexander (Clio, Mich./Clio Area), Katie McGlacken (Canton, Mich./Canton), and Chelsie Moyer (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) led the DC defense to a strong showing in the first half only surrendering one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.

The Yellow Jackets led 1-0 at intermission.

DC kept the pressure on early in the second as Marshall took another shot at the 54:23 mark that was blocked by a MSJ defender. Redick took another shot of her own at the 67:46 mark that nearly added another goal for DC but it hit the crossbar and bounced away harmlessly.

The last 20 minutes proved to belong to MSJ as the Lions found two goals to take the 2-1 win.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 29 when they travel to Richmond, Ind. for a HCAC battle against Earlham College.  The game is set for a 4 p.m. start.
