DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College surrenders a goal in overtime and drops to visiting Muskingum by a score of 2-1.
In their first home match in nearly a month, the Yellow Jackets (2-8) scored the first goal but couldn't stop a Muskingum (7-1-1) comeback.
June Delgreco (Dearborn Heights, Mich. / Crestwood) and her defense put a stop to Muskingum early. With her six saves, Delgreco was pitching a shutout through the first half.
On the offensive side of the field DC was just as dominant. Freshmen Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green) and Taylor Lantz (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) put together four shots for the Yellow Jackets in the first half, one of which found goal.
Memmer took a free kick from 30 yards out with just five minutes left to play in the first half. Muskingum's goalie would find the stop but Lantz would get the rebound and find the back of the next.
DC would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Muskies found the equalizing goal early in the second half to tie things up 1-1 at the 52 minute mark.
DC's defense would lock down Muskingum the rest of regulation, only allowing two shots on goal which were both stopped by Delgreco.
The Yellow Jacket offense would keep the pressure on the visiting squad, firing six shots the second half. Lantz put another shot on goal while Chelsie Moyer (Tipp City, Ohio / Tippecanoe) added two shots on goal herself.
Neither team could find another goal in regulation and extra time was needed to decide the match.
Muskingum scored three minutes into the first overtime, ending the game with it. The Muskies completed the comeback and got the 2-1 victory.
Delgreco ended with eight saves on the afternoon.
DC had six shots on goal for the game. Lantz led the way with three while Moyer and Memmer added two and one, respectively.
