DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets fall to the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace, 4-3, in gutsy comeback try. DC drops to 3-6-1 on the season after the tough loss.
It was a tale of two halves at Winsper-Knoble Field during the match. The first half was filled with nicely played defense by both sides and neither team pushing the tempo too much. BW's Sami Riveron found the first half's only goal, scoring unassisted from 25 yards out just under 30 minutes into the match.
As slowed down as the teams played the first half, the complete opposite was brought into play immediately in the second half. Within the first nine minutes of the half, BW found three goals. Heather Keller scored her fifth and sixth goals on the year and Hannah Cavalier added another goal plus one assist to push BW to a commanding 4-0 lead.
The score stayed at 4-0 until the 66th minute when the Lady Jackets' offense woke up in a big way. Leading the way was Lindsay Bubnick who stole a bad pass from the BW defense and turned it into her third goal of the year.
A short two and a half minutes later freshman Paige Courtney found Bubnick again who once again put a shot into the net for her second of the match and more importantly cutting BW's lead to 4-2.
The Lady Jackets weren't done yet, just over ten minutes later, Maegan Redick made a move around the defense and finished from 18 with her left foot, making the score 4-3.
In the end, DC just ran out of time, not able to get another shot onto goal and falling by the final 4-3 mark. In goal, Claire Turner faced 17 shots on goal and was able to save 13 of them.
Total shots were in favor of BW who outshot DC 31 to 8. Baldwin-Wallace had 20 shots on goal compared to Defiance College's seven.
DC stays at home to open up HCAC play next Saturday, October 5 at 1 pm. They will host Mt. St. Joe's out of Cincinnati, Ohio.
