Yellow Jackets Win Big in Opening Match of DC Classic

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The DC women's soccer team began the DC Classic on Friday, September 4, by defeating Finlandia 8-0 at the Defiance High School soccer stadium. Cherilyn Borkholder recorded a hat trick in the game, and helped the Jackets get off to a 6-0 lead at halftime.

Lauren Ranalli started the scoring for DC at the 9:25 mark and put in her second goal to open up a 3-0 lead just five minutes later. Alexandra Johnson notched two assists in the game as Melissa Alston, Hannah Firchau and Jordanne Buehrer also scored for the Jackets. The Yellow Jackets remained on the offensive for the majority of the match and allowed just one shot from the Lions. Melissa Kleman made an outstanding save in the second period to keep the shutout in tact for DC.

The Yellow Jackets return to the pitch on Sunday when the face off against Rochester College on the final day of the DC Classic. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Defiance High School varsity soccer field.
