Defiance Falls to Mount St. Joseph

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, October 25. The Jackets fell to 5-10-1 overall with the loss, while the HCAC-leading Lions improve to 11-4-2.
The Mount jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the 15th minute, as Megan Smith set up Beth Schuermann for the match's first goal. DC responded just over eight minutes later, as Melissa Alston's shot from just outside the box found the back of the net to knot the match at 1-1. However, the Lions would tack on two more scores in the opening period to regain the lead, taking home the victory after a scoreless final period.
Alston, Danielle Chadwick and Lauren Ranalli each recorded shots for Defiance, who was outshot 33-3 in the match. Colleen Cross recorded 11 saves on the day, while surrendering three goals. Kelly Coble had two saves for DC, after replacing Cross in the 67th minute.
The Jackets return to action on Tuesday, October 28, when they travel to Manchester College for a 3:30 p.m. match.
