Shutout of Franklin Keeps DC Perfect in HCAC Play
FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Defiance College women’s soccer team wasted no time grabbing control of its match with Franklin College, as midfielder Kaitlin Monberg scored two goals in the opening three minutes to help the Jackets grab a 3-0 victory.
FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Defiance College women's soccer team wasted no time grabbing control of its match with Franklin College, as midfielder Kaitlin Monberg scored two goals in the opening three minutes to help the Jackets grab a 3-0 victory. DC improves to 2-0 in the HCAC, while moving to 5-5-1 overall.
Monberg gave DC its first lead at the 1:57 mark, finding the net off a pass from Alexandra Johnson. The senior would score again less than a minute later off a feed by Danielle Chadwick. The Jackets added an insurance goal in the second period, as Amber Harrington scored her first collegiate goal at the 56-minute mark to round out the scoring for Defiance.
Keeper Colleen Cross picked up her third shutout of the season, tallying three saves on her way to her fifth victory of the season. The Jackets outshot Franklin 20-6 in the contest, with 15 of those shots coming on goal. Johnson led DC with six shots, four on goal, while Chadwick and Monberg each had three shots on goal. Monberg leads Defiance with a career-high 11 points this season by way of four goals and three assists.
The Jackets return to the pitch on Saturday, October 11, when they travel to Hanover College for a HCAC match at 11:00 a.m. DC, who has won five of its last seven, will be looking to go 3-0 in the HCAC for the first time since 2005 with a victory over the 2-6 Panthers.
