DC Outlasts Trine for First Victory of the Season

ANGOLA, Ind. – Lauren Ranalli's goal in the 59th minute helped the Defiance College women's soccer team complete the comeback with a 2-1 victory over Trine University on September 10. The Jackets found the win column for the first time this season, improving to 1-3-1 on the year.
The Thunder jumped out to an early lead on Rachelle Newberry's goal in the 34th minute, but Defiance would respond five minutes later. Danielle Chadwick found the net for the first time in collegiate career, helping the Jackets knot the game at 1-1. Shortly into the second half, Stephanie Lieto set up Ranalli's second goal of the season to break the dead-lock and give DC the victory.
The Jackets outshot Trine 20-6 over the course of the match, including 9-1 in the second half. Eight players recorded shots for DC, as Defiance tallied a season-high 14 shots on goal. Ranalli led Defiance with eight shots, five on goal, while Chadwick and Lieto each had three shots in the match.
Keeper Colleen Cross earned her first career victory, giving up one goal and collecting three saves in 90 minutes.
Defiance will return to action on Saturday, September 13, when it travels to Fort Wayne, Ind. to face the University of St. Francis. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
