Wrestling Caps Busy Day with Victory
CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Defiance College wrestling team made a trip east saturday for a pair of duals. The Yellow Jackets first took on hosts Case Western Reserve, falling in a nail-biting contest, 23-20. The Jackets looked for redemption in the second dual of the day, taking on Kent State Tuscarawas. DC prevailed in the contest with a final team score of 38-8.

DC prevailed in the contest with a final team score of 38-8.
In the first action of the day the Yellow Jackets grabbed five wins as a team, just falling short to the hosts. The Jackets then soared to a major victory over KSU Tuscarawas, only dropping two matches in the dual.
Rosendo Beltran (Toledo / Central Catholic) started the day off with a tech fall victory over his CWR opponent. The sophomore then followed up his performance with a decision win against KSU-T.
Seth Beard (Napoleon / Napoleon) fought through a tough 5-3 decision defeat in his first bout of the day before grabbing a huge 16-0 tech fall win in his second matchup.
In the 141 weight class, Raymier Hickerson (Cleveland Heights / Cleveland Heights) picked up a win in his loan contest with Tuscarawas.
Cortez Bradley (Garfield / Warrensville Heights) started his day off on a high note in 149, picking up a victory via pin just 2:52 into his first bout of the day.
Devonte Gaskill (Niles, Mich. / Niles) finished with a strong performance, grabbing an 8-3 decision in his first contest. Gaskill followed his victory up with a pin against KSU-T.
Tyler Houston (Swanton / Swanton) looked for redemption from his first match of the day. With 4:06 gone in the freshman's second bout, Houston pinned his opponent to help the Jackets continue their stellar performance against KSU-T.
Shannon Legge (Marysville / Marysville Early College) wrapped up a solid day on the mat, winning his first bout in a tight 2-0 decision, before following up with a pin in the second contest.
Hunter Mcnutt (Oregon / Clay) grabbed a 9-7 decision win in his bout with Case Western, ultimately dropping his second action of the day in a major decision.
The Yellow Jackets wrap up their busy day by improving their dual record to 2-4 on the season. Defiance will return to action Tuesday, Feb. 5, as they welcome Adrian College to the Karl H. Weaner Center for a dual. Action is slated to begin at 7:00 pm.
