It did not take long for the excited Defiance crowd to have something to cheer about. Rosendo Beltran (Toledo / Central Catholic) wasted no time in putting DC on the board. The sophomore grabbed a victory by way of a pin just 1:25 into his bout.
The Yellow Jackets had energy as they quickly reeled off a streak of wins. Seth Beard (Napoleon / Napoleon) was victorious in the 133 pound weight class. Raymier Hickerson (Cleveland Heights / Cleveland Heights) followed up with a 6-4 decision victory over his MSJ opponent.
Up 15-0, Cortez Bradley (Garfield / Warrensville Heights) looked to continue the winning streak in the 149 division. In thrilling fashion, the freshman was able to hold on for a 10-8 decision victory.
MSJ fired back with three straight wins of their own to cut into the DC lead, before Hunter Mcnutt (Oregon / Clay) grabbed an 8-1 decision win to extend the Defiance lead to 21-9. A victory in the final two weight classes for the Lions had the bout tied at 21-21.
After venturing through three tiebreakers, the Lions ultimately won due to a total match score of 35-33.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 23 as they visit Lourdes for dual action. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
