Defiance Wrestling Opens New Era at Adrian

The Yellow Jackets finished 11th in the 12 team field with 17.5 points. Wabash won the team title with 170 points.
Defiance was led on the day by sophomore Alex Smith (Castalia/Sandusky St. Mary's) in the 141 pound weight class claiming an eighth place finish. Smith opened the day with a victory defeating McCloskey of Mount Union by decision. He then took on McKenna of John Carroll where he dropped the match by fall. Smith would bow out in the consolation bracket after defeating Nowik of Adrian.
Freshman Dominic Newton (Euclid) ed the team with three victories in the 133 pound weight class where he claimed wins over Adrian College, Mount Union and the University of Toledo.
Freshman Cortez Bradley (Garfield/Warrensville Heights) looked to get something going in the 149 pound weight class where he won his opening match against Stephenson of Wabash by decision before defeating Kammer of Adrian by fall. He would fall in his next match with Todd of Heidelberg by way of decision.
In the 174 pound bracket, freshman Shannon Legge (Marysville/Early College) won his opening match by fall before dropping his match with Clary of Lourdes by tech fall.
Defiance rounded out the Invite in the 184 pound weight class where freshman Hunter Mcnutt (Oregon/Clay) claimed a win over Russel of Wabash by major decision before dropping matches to Pingel of Adrian and Herrin of Wabash.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, Nov. 10 as they travel to Trine University.
