Women’s golf places third, sets another record at Manchester Invite

MARION, Ind. – Defiance College women's golf set new team and individual 36-hole records for the second weekend in a row as the program continued a strong fall season at the Manchester University Invite at Arbor Trace Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday.

Headlined by the first sub-80 individual round since 2016, the Yellow Jackets quartet compiled a 707 weekend score with 362 on Saturday and a new team 18-hole record of 345 on Sunday. The previous 18-hole team record was recorded during the 2022 Manchester Invite with three returning golfers to this year's team. The 36-hole total of 707 also bested last weekend's effort of 712 at the Heidelberg Invitational.

Junior Winter Boroff led the charge for DC with a third-place finish by setting a new 36-hole record of 160 thanks to consecutive personal best rounds of 81 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday. Boroff's round of 79 to finish the tournament is tied for the second-lowest in program history behind Allison Barron's 78 and matches Kristin Aslania's 79 from the Heidelberg Invitational in 2016.

Cassi Van Dyke, who set the previous 36-hole record with a 161 last weekend, also recorded a top-10 finish with a weekend tally of 168 to finish tied for eighth. Her scorecards read 86 on Saturday and 82 on Sunday. Isabelle Vance placed 15th when she erased a round of 97 on Saturday by recording the fifth-lowest score in the field on Sunday with 80, a new personal best, to round out the weekend with 177 strokes. Freshman Emily Momany shot a personal best 98 on Saturday and closed with 104 on Sunday to shoot 202, her best two-day score of the year and 24th place.

As a team, Defiance finished third on the leaderboard behind Mount St. Joseph's 627 and Anderson's 690. Six of the HCAC's 10 institutions competed in the tournament. MSJ's Alyssa Haverstraw, last year's HCAC runner-up, earned medalist honors by seven strokes with rounds of 76 and 71 to finish just three shots over par.

Next up for the Yellow Jackets is the Beaver Fall Classic hosted by Bluffton. Defiance will tee off on Saturday, September 30 and finish on Sunday, October 1 at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Lima, Ohio.
