Najar Leads DC at the Defiance Fall Invitational
DEFIANCE, Ohio- The Defiance College women's golf team continued action at the Ironwood Golf Course in Wauseon, Ohio Sunday morning as part of the 2019 Defiance Fall Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament saw ten various schools visit for the competition.
Leading the way for the Purple and Gold was a new face to DC women's golf. Maricella Najar (Adrian, Mich. / Madison) hit an even 90 on each day of the action. The freshman's 180 total score saw her land tied for 44th overall.
Shelby Mercer (Canton / Glenoak) was the next highest Yellow Jacket finisher. The sophomore shot a 94 in round one before shaving her score down to an 88 on Sunday's trip around the course.
Julia Yeager (Defiance / Defiance) the final Defiance College finisher, also saw marked improvement on her score over the weekend. The freshman's 111 in round one was dropped all down to a 96 in round two.
The women's golf team will take the week off before returning to action Saturday, September 14, as they travel to Tiffin, Ohio for the Heidelberg Invitational. Saturday's start time is set for 12:00 pm at the Mowhawk Country Club.
