Women's Basketball falls at Rose-Hulman
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Defiance College women's basketball suffered an 80-43 defeat at Rose-Hulman Saturday afternoon inside Hulbert Arena. Today's 37-point loss is the largest margin of defeat in the series for the Yellow Jackets against Rose-Hulman.
The Fightin' Engineers improved to 11-10 overall and 8-6 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with the win. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 0-21 overall and 0-14 in the HCAC.
TURNING POINT
A layup by Addy Allen put the Yellow Jackets on top 6-5 with 6:16 remaining in the first quarter to give the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the game. After that bucket, Rose-Hulman answered with one of their own and rattled off a 12-0 run to take a 17-6 lead and controlled the game the rest of the way.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams traded baskets for the first 2:20 as the game featured two ties during that stretch. The layup by Addy Allen gave the Yellow Jackets their first and only lead of the game with 6:16 remaining in the first quarter and then the Fightin' Engineers answered with a 12-0 run to take a double digit lead. After the Yellow Jackets took that lead, they were outscored 16-3 during the final 6:44 of the opening period.
Rose-Hulman began the second quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 31-9 lead with 6:34 remaining in the first half. The Yellow Jackets missed their first four shots and turned it over twice. Teagan Hunt made a free frow with eight seconds left in the half to snap a mini run by Rose-Hulman. The Fightin' Engineers led 40-16 at the break.
The Yellow Jackets remained cold from the floor in the third quarter and went just 2-of-15 which allowed Rose-Hulman to build on their lead. The Fightin' Engineers outscored the Yellow Jackets 21-7 in the quarter.
DC finished the game strong and outscored the hosts 20-19 in the final quarter which included a game-best 6-0 run to begin the quarter. Kaiya Albert knocked down two threes to start the quarter. Rose-Hulman once again went on a run and responded with a 9-0 run of their own to make the score 76-33 with 3:16 left in the game. The Yellow Jackets ended the game on a 10-4 run and got baskets from Teagan Hunt, Aliza Clark, and Kaiya Albert.
