Women's Basketball drops Saturday tilt at Franklin
FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Franklin College Grizzlies led from start to finish for an 85-43 victory over the Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon at the Spurlock Center. Today's 42-point loss is the largest defeat in the series for the Yellow Jackets.
Franklin improves to 12-7 overall and 7-5 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with the win. The Yellow Jackets fall to 0-19 and 0-12.
TURNING POINT
Leading 29-16 after the first quarter, the Grizzlies took advantage of the cold shooting by DC and outscored the Yellow Jackets 15-6 in the second quarter to take a 44-22 lead into halftime. Franklin began the quarter on a 9-0 run that spanned 4:35.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Grizzlies came out and scored the first five points and shot a blistering 62 percent from the floor in the first quarter for a whopping 29 points. The opening quarter was the best shooting quarter for both teams as the Yellow Jackets shot 40 percent from the floor. The Yellow Jackets started the game with a missed three by Karrie Smith and a turnover before two free throws by Kaiya Albert put DC on the board just over a minute into the contest.
Both teams cooled off a bit in the second quarter. However, the Yellow Jackets converted just 2-of-14 attempts in the period for 14 percent. Both field goals were from long range, one each by Addy Allen and Ali Mowen. The Grizzlies only knocked down one three and neither team attempted a free throw. Leading scorer Zadria King was held scoreless in the first half.
The Grizzlies followed up their explosive first half offense with 41 more in the second half and outscored Defiance 41-21. The Grizzlies expanded on their lead with a 14-0 run that spanned the end of the third quarter and into the fourth quarter. The Yellow Jackets were held to single digit scoring in both the second and fourth quarter.
BRINGING THE STING

Zadria King led the team in scoring and rebounds again with 11 and six.

Ali Mowen and Addy Allen each finished with three assists.

Allen finished with nine points while both Mowen and Karrie Smith finished with six.

Katlin Barrett added four points off the bench.

Taylor Bates and Mone'a McElroy returned to action after missing the last game.

Bates grabbed five rebounds and Barrett pulled down four.
