Kenneth Blake added to Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College women's basketball has added to the program's coaching staff with the addition of Kenneth Blake, head coach Courtney Peay and the athletic department announced on Thursday.
Blake has over ten years of experience coaching basketball at the collegiate, high school and middle school levels. He comes to Defiance College from Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md., where he has been an assistant coach for the Lady Riverhawks since 2017.
He was the middle school coach and later the varsity basketball coach at Lanham Christian High School in Lanham, Md. Upon his ascent to head coach, he became the youngest varsity coach and athletic director in the Metro Independent School Athletic League (MISAL). His love and interest in basketball began at a young age in the metro Washington area as well when he was a defensive stopper for Grace Brethren High School. He also coached the following AAU teams: Team Dedication, Shot Doc Nation and Charm City Crusaders.
Coach Kenneth has spent much of his life teaching young players intelligent basketball strategies. He has provided individual basketball training to male and female players from middle school to Division-I college players. He served as an intern for the Philadelphia 76ers as coordinator of basketball camps and participated with the Washington Wizards Jr. NBA clinics. In 2016, he was afforded an opportunity to be the camp director for Assist Basketball Network in New Delhi, India.
"I am excited to have Coach Blake a part of our program with his experience and expertise," says Coach Peay. "I really feel like he will be a great addition to our offense and help with skill development with our guards."
Kenneth's teaching approach is based on teaching the complete player. He trains his students by developing their mental, physical, and technical understanding of basketball from beginners to advanced students.
