Defiance Plays Host to Area Rival Bluffton
DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College Yellow Jackets welcomed area rival Bluffton to the Karl H. Weaner Center on Wednesday evening as they dropped the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest 66-48.
DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College Yellow Jackets welcomed area rival Bluffton to the Karl H. Weaner Center on Wednesday evening as they dropped the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest 66-48.
The Purple and Gold (3-11 overall, 2-5 HCAC) were led in the contest by freshman Taylor Day (West Mansfield/North Unity) with a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets found themselves trailing early as the Beavers used a 12 point run to end the opening period with the 26-8 advantage. Defiance looked to get something going in the second quarter as junior Shelby Stamm (Bellevue) connected for a three-pointer that halted the Beavers. However, Bluffton deemed to much as they strung together another run over a two minute span to extend the lead to 36-14 with just over three minutes till halftime. Senior Lauren Rogers 9Munger, Mich./Bay City Central) would connect on a three late in the quarter looking to spark any momentum for DC but Bluffton remained hot as they entered the break with the 43-26 lead.
Bluffton carried the momentum into the second half as they picked up right where they left off connecting on back-to-back layups to push the lead to 49-28 just minutes into the half. The Beavers continued to fire on all cylinders as they surged ahead the Purple and Gold en route to the 66-48 victory.
Defiance returns to action on Saturday, January 12 as they travel to Mount St. Joseph. Tip off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
