Defiance's Kelsey tietje Named CoSIDA Academic All-District
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Defiance College women's basketball junior forward Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) continues to add to her list of accomplishments this season. Tietje's recognitions have been numerous for her play on the court, but now she extends her success into the classroom by being selected first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District VII.

To be eligible for the All-District Team, nominees must have a minimum of a 3.30 grade point average and have completed at least one full academic year at their respective institutions. Those being selected to the first-team, will be eligible for the Academic All-American ballot which be voted upon next week.
Tietje currently holds a 3.72 GPA as a business administration major. She has already had a standout junior season in 2015-16 leading the team, and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, in scoring at 19.0 points per game and rebounding with 11.8 boards per game. Tietje is the only player in the HCAC to average a double-double. She also ranks as the team leader in field goal percentage (52.1 percent) and blocked shots (48). Her 52.1 shooting percentage (151-of-290) is fourth highest in the conference and her 48 blocked shots is tops in the HCAC.
So far this season, Tietje has totaled 13 double-doubles and has equaled her career single-game high of 37 points on two occasions. She has scored in double-figures in all but three games to date, including nine games of 20 points or more and has scored 20-plus points in six of her last seven contests. Tietje has also grabbed 10 or more rebounds in 14 games going into this weekend.
For her career, Tietje recently surpassed the 1,000-point scoring plateau and now has 1,305 total points to rank eighth all-time in program history. She edges closer to the 1,000-rebound mark as well with 835 boards and sits just outside the top-five all-time in that category. In addition, Tietje has 139 career blocks which is tied for second most all-time and trails the all-time mark by 48. She enters the final weeks of the season with a 50.3 lifetime shooting percentage (445-of-885) and a 75.6 percentage from the free-throw line (411-of-544).
Tietje and the rest of the Yellow Jackets will host Transylvania (Ky.) University on Saturday, Feb. 13 in a HCAC matchup at the Karl H. Weaner Center. The game will also be part of a basketball doubleheader with the Defiance men's team. The women will tip-off against the Pioneers at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3 p.m.
