During the last weekend of 2013, Tietje (Deshler, Ohio / Patrick Henry) accounted for solid back-to-back nights against the Albion Britons and Olivet Comets. In the victory over Albion, the freshman notched a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds, along with three assists.
Then in a big matchup with one of the top centers in the nation, Tietje scored 20 and hauled in nine boards in the slim loss to Olivet. But the Patrick Henry product sealed her selection as conference player of the week on Saturday against Hanover.
Tietje was dominating on the glass in the matchup with the Panthers. She totaled 26 rebounds in the loss, including 16 in the first half alone, which set new DC and HCAC records. The center also recorded 18 points and a career-best five blocks.
Her rebound total was two more than the previous Defiance mark held by Lori Harris who is the Yellow Jackets all-time rebounds leader. Harris established the previous record more than 30 years ago in 1983. Tietje's mark also bested the HCAC record of 22 set in 1995.
Over the three contests, Tietje averaged 17.7 points, 17 rebounds and 2.3 blocks a game. She currently leads the conference in rebounding, sits second in field goal percentage and is third in points per game.
The Purple and Gold will travel back to Indiana on Wednesday, January 8 to take on the Anderson Ravens. Game-time is set for 7:30 p.m.
