Lady Jackets Drop Conference Opener
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets let a five-point halftime lead slip through their fingers on Wednesday, December 2, as they dropped a 67-56 decision to Anderson University. The loss puts the Jackets at 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference competition.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets let a five-point halftime lead slip through their fingers on Wednesday, December 2, as they dropped a 67-56 decision to Anderson University. The loss puts the Jackets at 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference competition.
Defiance went scoreless for the first three minutes of competition before connecting from long range three consecutive times to claim an early lead. They led by as much as seven in the first half and appeared to be taking control of the game but the Ravens played strong defense, forcing 20 turnovers, to stay in the game.
The Jackets pushed the lead to nine on a Tasha Stucke three-pointer with 14:51 remaining before the Ravens went on a 16-0 run to go up by nine with eight minutes left on the clock. Anderson forward Tiffany Bowsher led all scorers with 24 points, including 15 second half points, to help the Ravens outscore the Jackets 40-24 in the second half and run away with the victory.
Point guard Tasha Stucke continued her strong play, recording a team-high 13 points and four assists. Shavonda Price nearly recorded a double-double, posting 10 points and nine rebounds to go along with three blocks.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday, December 5, when they host conference foe Rose-Hulman (0-5) at the Karl H. Weaner Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
