Defiance Drops Season Finale to Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Defiance’s second half woes proved to be the difference in its 79-66 loss to Franklin College on Saturday, February 21. The Jackets finish their 2008-09 campaign with a 9-16 overall record and a 5-11 mark in the HCAC.

BLUFFTON, Ohio – Defiance was unable to overcome a large second-half deficit, falling to Bluffton University, 78-69, on February 18. The loss drops DC to 9-15, while eliminating the Jackets from the HCAC Tournament hunt.

Jackets Keep Tourney Hopes Alive with Second-Straight Win

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance moved one step closer to a HCAC Tournament berth, claiming a 60-47 victory over Rose-Hulman on Saturday, February 14. DC closed out its 2008-09 home slate with a pair of HCAC victories to tie Bluffton for the sixth and final spot in the conference tourney.

DC Breaks Single-Season Trey Mark in Win Over MSJ

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Courtney Schmersal used a three-point barrage to score 22 points, as Defiance claimed an 80-67 victory over Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday. Schmersal hit six trifectas in the contest to help the Jackets move past the 2004-05 squad with a DC single-season record 152 treys.

LIMA, Ohio – Defiance’s 36-17 run midway through the second half was not enough to erase a large deficit, as the Jackets fell 81-72 to the University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday, February 4. The loss drops DC’s road record to 7-6.

Jackets Use Strong Defensive Effort to Rout Manchester

N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Defiance had one of its best defensive outings of the season, holding Manchester College in check in a 74-52 blowout of the defending HCAC champion. The Jackets snapped a five-game losing streak with the victory, defeating Manchester for the first time in the last nine games.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance dropped a 91-90 heartbreaker to Hanover College on Saturday, January 24, as Holly Vogel hit the game-winner with three seconds left on the clock. The Jackets climbed back from a 17-point second half deficit, but for the second straight game were unable to complete the comeback.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College was able to come back from a large first-half deficit, but saw its rally fall short in a 79-74 loss to rival Bluffton University on Wednesday, January 21. The Jackets fall to 6-11 overall on the season, while dropping to 2-7 in HCAC play.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance fell to Franklin College, 83-80, on Saturday, January 17, in a game that saw the lead change hands seven times. The Jackets drop to 6-10 overall and 2-6 in the HCAC, despite scoring 29 points off turnovers in the contest.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Defiance could not withstand a strong second half by Mount St. Joseph, dropping a 72-57 decision on Wednesday, January 14. The Jackets, who are now 5-5 on the road this season, fall to 2-5 in the HCAC.

ANDERSON, Ind. – Defiance came into the game with a 5-3 road mark, but saw an early lead slip through its fingers in a 58-51 loss to Anderson University on January 10. The Jackets fall to 2-4 in the conference, while Anderson improves to 4-1 to remain unbeaten in the HCAC inside O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Defiance built up 19-point first half lead, before holding on for a 50-44 victory over Rose-Hulman on Wednesday, January 7. The Jackets scored 23 points off turnovers and recorded 18 second-chance points in the game, improving to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in HCAC play.

DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance was not able to open the new year on a high note, dropping an 84-80 decision to Transylvania University in matchup that featured two of the HCAC's most lethal offenses. The Jackets fall to 1-3 in the conference with the loss, while Transy moves to 3-1 in HCAC play.
